Types of Warehouses

Warehouse is a place or an establishment for the safe storage of goods. The warehouses are specially built for preserving goods from the time they are produced until they are needed for consumption. The warehouses built for storage of goods differ in sizes, designs and production depending upon the nature of goods and products.

  • Private warehouses: Private warehouses are used to store exclusively owned goods. These warehouses are constructed by the owners according to the nature of the commodity to be stored. The design and the facilities are provided there according to the nature of products to be stored.
  • Public Warehouses: These warehouses are meant for use by general public. Anyone can store their goods in public warehouses for a nominal rent. These warehouses can be private or state owned. In case a private company wants to start a public warehouse.
  • Government warehouses: The government warehouses are owned, managed and governed by Central or State government. Government warehouses offer better security and safety of goods due to high involvement of government. They are very less expensive but require considerable paper work to be done.
  • Bonded Warehouses: Bonded warehouses are such types of warehouses, which are duly licensed by the government for accepting of imported goods to store. The goods are released to the importers on payment of custom duties.
  • Co-operative Warehouses: These warehouses are owned, managed and controlled by co-operative societies. They provide warehousing facilities at the most economical rates to the members of their society.
